It’s official. Evangelion 3.0+1.0 has been announced for a 2020 release. Yesterday’s premiere of Mamoru Hosoda’s “Mirai of the future” included a special teaser announcing that Evangelion 3.0+1.0 will be released to theaters in 2020. The teaser features Mari operating Unit-08 with Aliens-esque power loader arms somersaulting through the air. The official Evangelion website was updated with the new date, as well as a news post with the date, and Unit-08’s new design was posted to khara’s secondary Twitter account.
Responses from fans have been bittersweet. On one hand, fans are excited to see the film progressing and being given a date. On the other hand, many people are disappointed that (depending on the exact release) they have another two years to wait. And given the way things go, the home video release (and decent fansubs) won’t be out for a number of months later, and then the official English release will be even further down the road.
We still have a good long ways to go.
